Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), Malaysia’s premier transshipment port, partnered with Tiger Analytics to transform its data ecosystem using a modern data lakehouse platform powered by Databricks. The goal was to create a centralized repository and modern data system to serve as a single source of truth across the entire logistics value chain. Tiger Analytics leveraged Databricks’ Unity Catalog to improve data governance, security, and accessibility, ensuring data was well-governed, secure, and easily discoverable. The implementation aimed to consolidate structured and unstructured data, enable real-time analytics, break down data silos, and enhance decision-making across Operations, Productivity, Maintenance, and Finance.

Delivering this data lake resulted in significant advantages for PTP. The platform unified data from over 10 operational sources, providing a single platform for comprehensive insights. Its scalable storage and processing capabilities handled increasing data volumes without affecting performance. Real-time operational reporting was enabled, facilitating faster, data-driven decisions and greater accuracy.

A centralized repository of both structured and unstructured data supported the development of Machine Learning (ML) and Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives. Complex calculations, previously taking hours, were handled efficiently, reducing report generation time to minutes and eliminating the risk of manual errors. Enhanced decision-making for resource allocation was achieved, particularly in Prime Mover (PM) deployment planning, leading to optimized shift coverage and resource utilization. Additionally, the platform enabled multiple use cases, including upcoming ML-based solutions for delinquency prediction and power consumption anomaly detection using IoT, further enhancing operational efficiency and strategic growth.
